The Pine Bluff Police Department is urging residents to remain vigilant about the dangers of fentanyl as National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day approaches.
Officials say fentanyl continues to be one of the most dangerous drugs in circulation, driving a significant number of overdose deaths across the country. In 2024, more than 47,000 people in the United States died from fentanyl-related overdoses.
Authorities warn the drug can take multiple forms, including pills, capsules, powder and rock form, making it difficult to identify. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, six out of 10 counterfeit pills containing fentanyl may carry a potentially lethal dose.
Police officials say they remain committed to removing illegal drugs from the streets and holding those responsible for trafficking fentanyl accountable.
The department is also encouraging individuals struggling with addiction to seek help, emphasizing that resources are available for those in need.
