A $100,000 secured bond was set Monday for a Pine Bluff man accused of leading police on a highspeed chase with open containers in the floor and a baby in the backseat.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge 29-year-old Rodney Shavers with felony fleeing and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Reading from an affidavit by Detective Johnathan Nutt, Prosecuting Attorney Jim Williams said June 19th, Trooper Nutt was stationary on I-530 Northbound south of exit 27, where he observed a white Honda Accord approaching his location at a high rate of speed.

He activated his radar, which determined the driver was going over 100 mph in a 75 mph speed limit zone.

He conducted a traffic stop, to which the operator, identified as Shavers, of the vehicle pulled over to the right shoulder. As Trooper Nutt was approaching the vehicle, Shavers fled northbound.

Nutt got back in his vehicle and pursued Shavers on N-530. They reached speeds of up to 130 mph.

Trooper Nutt attempted to get into a tactical maneuver position multiple times, finally Shavers forced the vehicle to the right shoulder around mile marker 7 in Pulaski County.

Continuing to drive on the right shoulder, he reached 120 mph in a 60 mph zone. Eventually he made it to W 65th st in Little Rock, where he would come stop at the end of Westmore Lane where he exited the vehicle and left on foot.

He was tazed while climbing a fence and taken into custody.
