Earlier today, Mayor Vivian Flowers held a meeting with concerned citizens at the Carl Redus, Jr. Aquatics Center. Deltaplex News had been asked by a number of those attending to report on what was discussed. Haleigh Reichen arrived at the meeting only to be told that she would not be allowed in. After starting the discussion, Flowers noticed one individual recording and told everyone in attendance that phones and recording would not be allowed because “with the press not here, the only reason you would want to record is to post it”.
When Deltaplex News found out they would not be allowed into an open meeting, an email was sent to the city’s Communications Director, informing him that we were filing an official FOIA request for the readout of the meeting. The request has to be fulfilled within 72 hours before report will be filed with the State Attorney General’s office. Deltaplex also asked for a reply back letting us know that the request was received. We have not received that reply back at this time. Since the meeting, we have received a full audio recording of the meeting and will bring you portions of that tomorrow morning on our noon and 5 p.m. newscasts.
