The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its efforts to combat prescription drug misuse by participating in the Statewide Drug Take-Back Program.
The program provides residents with a safe and secure way to dispose of unused or unwanted medications at the sheriff’s office dispatch center, which is located inside the county jail.
According to officials, when medications are turned in, dispatchers conduct a pill count and provide a receipt to the individual. The medications are then securely stored in a designated lockbox until they can be properly removed from circulation.
Authorities said the process is designed to help prevent accidental misuse, theft and potential abuse of prescription drugs, while also reducing risks to families and the community.
As part of the program’s ongoing impact, officials recently removed eight boxes of unused medications from the county. Investigator Jakeb Croy and Deputy Stewart “Pic” Pickering assisted with the collection and removal.
Sheriff’s officials said the program remains an important tool in addressing prescription drug abuse and encouraging residents to take proactive steps in safely disposing of medications.
