Barring a special meeting of the Pine Bluff City Council, a proposed ordinance to extend the five-eigths cent sales tax for another seven years, and impose a three-eights cent tax for public safety that will be permanent will not be voted on until next year.

On Monday, four members of the city council voted not to suspend the rules and read the ordinances a second time, which would have been necessary. Among the four were First Ward Council member LaTisha Brunson who appeared on Oldies 1013 Tuesday morning and was asked why she voted no.

Brunson went on to say she didn’t have any problems with Go Forward CEO Ryan Watley or Mayor Shirley Washington and her concern is and always will be for the citizens of Pine Bluff.

She said that she thinks people are confused about the issue and they are being emotional and not practical. She also said she has heard nothing about a special meeting of the council in an attempt to move the legislation forward.
