Last week, a Hamburg man was sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison after being convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

On Tuesday, Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr., was a guest on the Oldies 101.3 morning show and was asked about the advantages of filing felon in possession of a firearm charge in federal court verses state court, especially since the state law has been changed.

Woods went on to talk about a current case where federal authorities have stepped in.

He said the female was “fairly young” but now she will “suffer the consequences.”

Woods was also asked about current crime trends.
