Jefferson County Road Department lays off nearly a dozen employees

Nearly a dozen employees of the Jefferson County Road department have been laid off.

According to County Judge Robinson, the layoffs were necessary because the County has witnessed a reduction in state turn back funding. The judge says that Jefferson County has experienced a 40-percent reduction because population loss and inaction by the some members of the Court.

The Road department is the only agency affected at this time. Several Quorum Court members declined to comment.
