A $5,000 bond was set Tuesday for a Jefferson County man accused of hitting and choking his girlfriend during an altercation Sunday.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Corey Long, 47, with aggravated assault on a family or household member.

Reading from a probable cause affidavit from Sheriff’s Investigator Charles White, Deputy prosecutor Beth Carson said deputies were sent to a reported disturbance at 10:30 a.m. on Petty Road where the female victim said Long, her boyfriend, had kicked her out of the house.

Carson said Long allowed the victim’s two young boys to leave the house and one of the deputies stuck their foot in the door in an attempt to keep Long from shutting and locking it. Due to marks on the victim’s face, Long was placed under arrest, and he pushed the door closed, ran to the back of the house, and then outside and he was located on Petty Road.

White reported that no statement was taken from Long because he was intoxicated.

He was ordered to have no contact with the victim and said he would hire his own attorney.
