Early voting for the 2020 General Election is continuing at the Jefferson County Courthouse and while the line Wednesday morning didn’t match the line on Monday, which stretched almost all the way around the building, County Clerk Shawndra Taggart said she was very pleased with the way things have gone so far.

Taggart said there were 1,281 people who cast ballots Monday and another 1,340 on Tuesday, and said during a presidential election, the clerk’s office generally sees between 900 and 1,000 people a day.

She also talked about what her office is doing to keep the clerks and voters safe during a pandemic.

The County Clerk’s Office will be open for early voting from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., through the end of this week and again next week. Voters may also cast their ballots Saturday, Oct. 24 and Saturday, Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The final day of early voting will be Monday, Nov. 2, when the clerk’s office will be open regular office hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
