Berinda and Aaron Eugene’s organization Hope Empowerment has been giving back to the community with work and college readiness educational programs for over 25 years. In 2015, they decided to host an annual summer program focusing on literacy, math, and science to help local Pine Bluff Students that may be struggling to stay ahead during the regular school year.

The organization recently hosted their Summer Program that’s finishing up on July 29, and Deltaplex news talked to Mrs. Eugene who explained more about their program.

Deltaplex news asked them about the activities featured in this year’s summer program, and Mrs. Eugene highlighted that the program began in June which is national pollination month, and went on to explain more.

The program occurred Monday through Friday from 7 am until 6 pm and Eugene explained the importance of this schedule for the students they serve.

Their program hires teachers from the local Pine Bluff area who also receive a stipend for their duties and she explained more about that.

Eugene went on to say that they accept applications for volunteers and onsite job training for local high schools and college students.

Next up for their organization is an afterschool program beginning on August 29th. Anyone looking to apply to volunteer or sign their child up can contact them at 870-413-6189 or 870-292-5353. They can also visit them at 412 W. 6th Avenue.
