A Hamburg man was killed in a one-vehicle accident in rural Ashley County Saturday.
According to a preliminary report, James Randall Rial, 71, was westbound on U.S. Highway 82 when the 2003 Toyota he was driving crossed into the oncoming lane and ran off the road. The vehicle then ran into a roadside ditch and struck an embankment, then went airborne, crossed a private drive, then continued westbound in the ditch before coming to a final stop.
Rial was pronounced dead at the scene.
The death was the 13th reported so far this year on the state’s highways.
