Improvements are planned at the Cox Creek Lake Park in Grant County, using grant money from the state.

The Sheridan Headlight newspaper reported that the county has received a $15,000 grant from the Arkansas Rural Community Grant program to install a dump station at the park.

County Judge Randy Pruitt told the newspaper that the camping area at the park does not currently have an area to dump waste from campers and RV’s as is common in other campgrounds.

That grant required a $15,000 match in either cash or in labor costs and Pruitt said the county has already completed that requirement in labor costs and by clearing the land.

The newspaper reported that Grant County has also applied for a $75,000 grant from the Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism. Those funds would go toward building a half-mile walking trail around one part of county-owned land at the park. Also under consideration is a beach volleyball court and a pavilion at the park.
