Golden Lions Fall to Grambling St.

PINE BLUFF, AR.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff fell 43-14 to Grambling St. at home Friday night at Simmons Bank Field.

Johnny Williams paced the Golden Lions rushing attack by accumulating 99 yards and one touchdown over the course of the game, averaging 6.6 yards per carry. BJ Curry also added 20 yards on the ground, averaging 6.7 yards per carry.

Derrick White hauled in one catch for 38 yards.

Khalil Arnold showed out for the UAPB defense, totaling 11 tackles and 1.0/3 tackle for loss one recovered fumble, followed by SWAC leading tackler Rico Dozier with 9 tackles and 0.5/1 tackle for loss.

The Golden Lions forced one turnover in Friday’s contest, with UAPB turning that takeaway into seven points.

Defensively, UAPB held up fairly well against the Grambling passing attack, holding the Tigers to 198 yards through the air.

How It Happened

UAPB scored on the game’s first drive to take a 7-0 lead. Grambling then scored to take a 29-7 lead before the Golden Lions put a touchdown on the board to close the gap and make it a 29-14 game. UAPB didn’t score again in the game and Grambling St. tacked on 14 more points to finish off the scoring.

» The Golden Lions had two players with more than eight tackles in the ballgame led by Arnold, who had 11.
» UAPB went 2-for-4 on fourth down, converting on 50 percent of attempts.

The Golden Lions will head to Houston, TX. against Texas Southern, Saturday, Nov. 18, for their final game of the season.  Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
