Of those eight, which accounted for less than two percent of the total calls for the month, four were reported in Ward 1, two in Ward 2, and two in Ward 3.

Fire and Emergency Services Chief Shauwn Howell said total calls for the month average between 400 and 500 each month.

Brush/grass/ rubbish fires accounted for four percent of the total calls with 19, four more than in July and Howell talked about them when he appeared on the Oldies 1013 morning show. Howell also confirmed that the burn ban is still in effect for Jefferson County.

Emergency medical calls were responsible for 64.21 percent of the total calls in August, a total of 05 which was 15 more than in July.

Howell explained that firefighters do not respond every time an ambulance is called, since some of those calls are just for transporting patients or welfare checks, but if there is trauma, firefighters will go.
