Emergency Medical responses accounted for more than half the Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Departments calls in October, according to the monthly report released Monday.

Firefighters answered 513 calls for service during October with 284 of them emergency medical responses. That accounted for 55.4 percent of the total calls for the month. Another six percent, or 29 calls, were for vehicle accidents with injuries.

By comparison, 256 emergency medical calls were reported in September and 29 vehicle accidents with injuries.

According to the report, there were 21 structure fires in October, six more than in the previous month.

A total of six vehicle fires were reported, the same number as in September, while five brush, grass and rubbish fires were reported, 11 fewer than in September.

Firefighters responded to 24 alarm calls in October, 10 more than in September. Another 40 were determined to be false alarms. That figure was 17 less than the 57 false alarms in September.
