When the application period closed, 31 people from across the United States had applied for the position of Pine Bluff Police Chief. None of those 31 were from within the department itself.

On Monday, former Pine Bluff Police Chief and current member of the City Council Ivan Whitfield appeared on TalkBack Live and told host Floyd Donald why he thought there were no applicants from within the department.

Whitfield retired from the department and said there are current officers in the department who have 30 years of experience and graduated from what he described as the top police school in America.

A caller asked Whitfield what the duties of the Police Chief entailed and Whitfield answered this way.
