A Pine Bluff man who has two pending cases in Jefferson County Circuit Court was arrested Saturday on drug and weapons charges.

Brian Payne, 46, was taken into custody by Trooper Shane Caviness who stopped the Honda CRV Payne was driving after seeing the vehicle turn left from Blake Street onto the Martha Mitchell Expressway without yielding to oncoming traffic and nearly causing an accident.

Deputy Prosecutor Beth Carson described what happened next.

Carson said Caviness secured a passenger in the vehicle and got the keys and a small black bag containing a crystal-like substance in the driver’s door armrest.

Carson said Payne has two separate cases pending and Circuit Jude Alex Guynn has issued an alias warrant and revoked Payne’s bond on one of them because Payne did not show up for a hearing.

On Monday, District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $5,000 cash-only bond for Payne on probable cause of being a felon in possession of a firearm, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of a controlled substance with the purpose to deliver, and possession of a controlled substance.
