A 68-year-old Carthage man was killed in a one-vehicle accident in Grant County Wednesday morning.

According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas Department of Public Safety, William Otis Linter, 68, was southbound on Arkansas Highway 35 and as he was negotiating a right turn, he drove under a tree that was lying across the roadway. After driving under the tree, the vehicle drove left of the roadway into a ditch partially submerging the vehicle in standing water.

The accident was reported at 10:15 a.m., and the death was the 249th reported on the state’s highways so far this year.
