Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson on Tuesday said he was encouraged by the latest report from the Department of Workforce Services which showed that unemployment in the state had declined from 6:3 percent in November to 4.2 percent in December, a decrease of 2.1 percent.

Prior to beginning his weekly COVID-19 briefing, Hutchinson put the numbers in a historical perspective.

The governor went on to say that the numbers reflect that some of the people who dropped out of the workforce are now coming back into the workforce so the unemployment numbers are declining and the number of people working is increasing.

Also speaking Tuesday was State Education Commissioner Johnny Key who encouraged parents and students to continue to practice safety so that spring events can continue.
