Legislation sponsored by Pine Bluff City Council member Glen Brown Sr., to rename Hazel Street in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., was pulled from the agenda of the City Council Tuesday because proper procedures for renaming a street had not been followed.

Appearing on the Oldies 1013 morning show Wednesday, Council Member Joni Alexander was asked about it.

Alexander described renaming streets and buildings as a “perk of the job” but said that’s not city business. “If the citizens want something like that to happen, we make it happen for them.”

On another subject, Alexander said the council voted to give the street department money from the American Rescue Plan.

Asked by morning show host Greg Horne if the mayor and other council members favored the action, Alexander responded this way.
