As the City of Pine Bluff scrambles to find more money to increase wages, particularly in the area of public safety, First Ward City Council Member Joni Alexander appeared on the Oldies 101.3 morning show Tuesday and one of the topics of discussion was the need for more industry.

She explained that she was not saying to stop looking for new industry, then explained what she described as her priorities.

Allison Thompson, the President, and CEO of the Economic Development Alliance for Jefferson County heard Alexander’s comments and called in her response to them.

Thompson said people in her line of work were formerly called industrial developers but that has since changed as there are other businesses that can bring in new wealth, such as the medical industry and tourism, like the Saracen Casino.
