The Pine Bluff City Council’s Administration Committee on Tuesday recommended that legislation increasing the pay for a senior mechanic with the City’s Transit Department be approved by the full council when it meets next Monday.

Meeting on Zoom, Transit Director Cassandra Shaw explained the reason for the request.

She said the increase could be handled internally with no new city money involved.

The committee also recommended that proposed legislation establishing the Pine Bluff Downtown Development Collaborate be approved, although committee member Glen Brown Sr. said he had a problem with giving public money to a private group.

Committee Chairman Lloyd Holcomb Jr. said there are a number of different entities working on projects and all of them are going in different directions. This legislation would let the groups come together “so they know which way they’re going.”

Although not a member of the committee, Council Member Ivan Whitfield described the legislation as a good idea.
