A Jefferson County man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly cut himself with a box cutter and threatened to cut his wife after hitting her with his fists.

James Harmon, 49, was taken into custody after sheriff’s deputies were sent to a residence on Pine Oak Lane in reference to a reported suicide attempt.

During a court hearing Friday, Deputy Prosecutor Shana Alexander read from an affidavit by Sheriff’s Investigator Sandra Harper.

Alexander said Harmon has pending a pending felony charge in Drew County and two prior felony convictions. He was not interviewed because he was intoxicated.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $75,000 bond for Harmon after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault on a family or household member and terroristic threatening. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled and told to come back to Court Jan. 24.
