A $50,000 bond was set Tuesday for a Pine Bluff man with prior felony convictions, who fled from police when they tried to stop the car the man was driving Saturday.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Curlee Williams, 46, with felony fleeing, being a felon in possession of a firearm and criminal mischief.

Reading from an affidavit by Detective Jason Boykin, Deputy Prosecutor Brittaney Akel said police attempted a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet Malibu with expired license tags and the driver, later identified as Williams fled north on Olive Street from 30th Avenue.

Akel said police located a Smith and Wesson revolver in the driver’s side door compartment and the other occupants of the car said they tried to get Williams to slow down but he refused and asked them to try and hide the gun.

Williams has prior convictions for first-degree battery and aggravated robbery in 1993 and on a drug charge in 2011.

He was told to come back to court Oct. 5.
