Watson Chapel School District is sharing a volunteer opportunity for students in grades 9-12 interested in gaining experience in the juvenile justice system while earning community service hours.
The Jefferson and Lincoln Counties Teen Court is currently recruiting student volunteers from August 3rd through October 31st, 2026.
Teen Court volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in real cases involving violations of Arkansas law while serving in roles such as prosecuting attorney, defense attorney, court clerk, jury member and bailiff.
The program also provides students with experience in the juvenile justice field, community service hours and opportunities to participate in field trips.
Students eligible to participate include those in ninth through 12th grades who can commit to attending one Monday each month from September through April.
The program will also include presentations from special guests from the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law, including Dean of Law Colin Crawford, Director of Admissions Gabriela Wells and Assistant Dean of Admissions Mary-Scott Polk Timmis.
A swearing-in ceremony will be conducted by Arkansas Court of Appeals District 7 Judge Waymond Brown.
Teen Court orientation will be held Tuesday, September 1st, 2026, from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. at the Jack Jones Juvenile Center, located at 301 East Second Avenue in Pine Bluff.
