Sunday morning just after 5 a.m., Dwayne Stevens was struck and killed while riding his bicycle on Olive Street near Ridgway Road. Pine Bluff police originally didn’t provide the name of the victim as the search for out of state next of kin took place. Stevens moved from California at the age of 13 and lived in Pine Bluff for the last 53 years.
The early release from the police department said that the unknown victim, later identified as Stevens was struck by a midsize black SUV, with the man being pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner April Davis. The driver remained at the scene before being taken to Jefferson Regional with what was described as “elevated blood pressure”
Since that point, Deltaplex News has attempted to get the police incident report from both Pine Bluff PD and the Arkansas State Police, which posts all fatal traffic accident reports on their website.
After filing a FOIA request for the report, which both the PD and ASP told us “was not in the system”, this morning we received an email from Sgt Jacob Howard of the PD’s Office of Professional Standards, saying that the report “will not be made public, as records related to undisclosed or ongoing law enforcement investigations are exempt from release under A.C.A. 25-19-105(b)(6) at this time.”
In a follow up call to the Pine Bluff Police Department, Deltaplex News was told it would not being able to released as it is currently a “criminal investigation”. Deltaplex News will report further on the incident when the report is made available.
