The City Of Pine Bluff has announced the Carl Redus, Jr. Pine Bluff Aquatics Center will remain closed till June 22nd. This after a drowning occurred on Wednesday, June 10th just after 9 a.m. That drowning took the life of an 84-year-old woman from Fordyce, identified as Iredell Collins.
In the alert sent out by the city, they said that “the closure will be extended through this week. We anticipate reopening and resuming normal operations Monday, June 22, 2026. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding”
On Friday, Deltaplex News received the police report after filing a Freedom of Information request with the PBPD. In that report, the lifeguard said when she arrived for her shift at 9 a.m. she noticed a woman in the water, who was not the victim. A walker was also seen along the wall of the pool. She said that woman, who’s name does not show up in the police report as a witness, left the pool without assistance. The lifeguard said “something didn’t sit right and she went to investigate, at which time she saw a woman floating in the pool.” That woman was later identified by Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley as Iredell Collins. The police report lists her name as “Redell Collins”. Officer Tiffany Wood, who was the first on the scene said she requested to look at the video footage, but was told by the lifeguard that only the manager could show it.
Deltaplex News has since filed a FOIA request for the CCTV footage, which must be provided by 5 p.m. on Wednesday. We anticipate also filing a request for the lifeguard schedules for that day to see if the Aquatic Center was understaffed.
