An inmate at the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Detention Center has died following a medical emergency, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said detention center staff responded at approximately 4:06 p.m. on April 27 to detainee Eddie Williams, who was experiencing a medical issue while in custody.
Personnel immediately rendered aid, including lifesaving first aid measures, and contacted emergency medical services. Williams was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
Officials said Williams was pronounced dead at the hospital at 4:53 p.m.
The cause of death has not yet been determined. An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted at the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory.
The sheriff’s office said there were no signs of foul play. The incident remains under investigation, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
