The Cleveland County Quorum Court will officially name a new County Judge during their regular meeting Feb. 2.

According to the Cleveland County Herald, the court officially declared the office vacant when they met on Monday night in Rison.

In addition, a vacancy was declared for a position on the Quorum Court because of the death of one of its members.

County Judge Jimmy Dale Adair died Jan. 2 at a Little Rock hospital. He had been appointed to the position in September 2025 to fill the unexpired term of the late County Judge Jimmy Cummiings, who died in September 2025.

Justice of the Peaced Owen Rushing died Dec. 26 at Jefferson Regional Hospital. He served on the Quorum Court for 19 years, representing Dist. 6.

The Quorum Court will select the county judge while the Governor will appoint the replacement for Rushing. That person must live in District 6.

During the meeting, no possible successor’s were named.
