A $75,000 bond was set Friday for a Pine Bluff man on drug and weapons-related charges.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Dexter Thompson, 71, with possession of a controlled substance ecstasy with a purpose to deliver and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms.

Deputy Prosecutor Shana Alexander read an affidavit from Tri-County Drug Task Force Officer Joseph O’Neal that explained why Thompson was arrested.

O’Neal reported that when Thompson was arrested, he admitted to having the pills and wanting to sell them to get money to buy more drugs. He said he bought the gun from Hunter’s Refuge for protection.

Thompson was told to come back to court on Dec. 15.
