The annual Grant County Timberfest returns for its 40th anniversary Oct. 6 and 7 on the Grant County Courthouse Square.

According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, the first Timberfest was held in 1983 and 40 years later, will feature 140 vendors and several new games.

The Timberfest Pageant will be held Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church and entry forms can be obtained at the Sheridan Chamber of Commerce.

The newspaper reported that the Arkansas Champion Lumberjack competition will begin Saturday at 11:30 a.m. behind the courthouse. Also, the annual Go Hog Wild Arkansas State championship BBQ Cook-off will begin Friday evening at 204 N. Oak St. and there will be $5,000 in prizes awarded in four categories, chicken, pork ribs, pork and beef brisket. Entrants must compete in all four categories for the Grand Championship Award.

There will also be live music Friday evening and all-day Saturday.

Proceeds from Timberfest help the Grant County Chamber of Commerce provide scholarships to area students.
