A $25,000 bond was set Monday for a Pine Bluff man accused of stealing copper wire from a utility pole.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Bobby Sanders, 50, with damaging wire or other fixtures from a telephone pole or other utility pole or other electrical fixture and theft of property.

Reading from an affidavit by Detective Keith Banks, Deputy Prosecutor Shana Alexander said on Friday at about 9:30 a.m., police were sent to Poplar Street in reference to a man stealing copper from a utility pole.

Alexander said Sanders has no recent prior convictions but was convicted on drug related charges in the early 2000’s.

He was told to come back to court Sept. 29.
