A White Hall man was arrested Tuesday following an investigation into allegations that he opened credit card accounts on a relative’s account without permission.

James Sanders, 31, was taken into custody after police were sent to a house in response to a reported disturbance.

White Hall Police Investigator Clayton Cantrell reported that on April 28, police were contacted by Sanders’ aunt who said Sanders had opened several credit cards and made several transactions totaling about $6,000.

During a court hearing Thursday, Deputy Prosecutor Mircha King talked about the allegation.

When Sanders was arrested, police found a plastic baggie containing a white powder that tested positive for cocaine and a white powder that tested positive for methamphetamine in Sanders’ wallet when they were looking for the credit cards. He admitted the drugs were his and admitted opening the credit card accounts.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $7,000 bond for Sanders after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with financial identity fraud, forgery, theft of property,  and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.  He said he would hire his own attorney.
