WC School Board Passes Vote for ASBA Board Delegate, Superintendent Addresses Letter from State Board

On Monday, the Watson Chapel School Board met to discuss several action agenda items. The first item for discussion was a petition for transfer for a student from another AR school district. Superintendent Tom Wilson provided further context to the board and public about the request for transfer and recommended that the board deny the request via vote. The reason why the recommendation was made is due to the current enrollment at the Watson Chapel school district.

The next item for discussion was a letter from the state board regarding Watson Chapel’s efforts in scheduling for students in the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. In the letter, the state board of education informs administration that the district will be placed on the October 13th state board meeting agenda, where a recommendation will be made to place the district on accredited probation for the 23-24 school year. The state’s Office of Public-School Accountability Standards and Systems Support Unit determined that the WCSD was in violation of 3 probationary standards of accreditation:

 

Superintendent Wilson provided more comments on the district’s outlook for Friday’s meeting with the Arkansas State Board of Edu.:

 

Following Superintendent’s address to the letter was an action item for the board to vote on a delegate to attend the district 2022-2023 (Arkansas School Board Association) ASBA assembly board meeting in December. Board Member Donnie Hartsfield asked if any board members were interested and decided to take on the position after not getting any volunteers. The board held a motion to come to a consensus as to who will serve as the delegate, which led to a vote that eventually passed making Board Member Hartsfield the delegate:

Superintendent Tom Wilson made recommendations on the following actions for the Watson Chapel School district: Recommendation of termination of part time custodian, a waiver for continued employment of a classified employee, and also the employment of Keiosha Jones, SPED Paraprofessional. Two letters of resignation were announced by Superintendent Wilson as well.
