UAPB Women Hoops Rallies In Second Half To Take Down Arkansas 74-70; First Power 5 Win In Program History

FAYETTEVILLE, AR – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff  women’s basketball team rallied from a 10-point deficit at 51-41 with 6:35 left in the third quarter to knock off the Arkansas Razorbacks 74-70 on the road Sunday.

The Golden Lions had three players score in double figures, led by Zaay Green, who had 21 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Coriah Beck tacked on 15 points and two blocks and Demetria Shephard helped out with 12 points and six rebounds from the bench.

Maori Davenport pulled down six offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for UAPB, grabbing 22 boards and turning them into 25 second chance points.

UAPB did a great job disrupting Arkansas shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Beck’s two rejections led the way individually for the Golden Lions.

How It Happened

UAPB kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 15-14.

The Golden Lions continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 42-32 halftime deficit.

After intermission, UAPB cut its deficit to 58-50 before going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a three from Beck, to trim its deficit to 58-57 with 1:22 to go in the third. The Golden Lions were unable to cut further into the deficit, but did not cede ground to Arkansas either and entered the fourth quarter trailing 61-60. UAPB knocked down four three-pointers in the quarter to score 12 of its 28 total points.

Arkansas kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 64-62 advantage before UAPB went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Beck’s three, to seize a 67-64 lead with 7:11 to go in the contest. The Golden Lions kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 74-70 win. UAPB fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 14 points.
