UAPB Women Hoops Green, Beck, and Reese Shine; Lady Lions Dominate Arkansas Baptist 103-35 At Home

PINE BLUFF, AR — Zaay Green went off for a triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 16 assists to lead the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff women’s basketball team over the 103-35 at home Friday.

In addition to Green’s triple double, the Golden Lions were led by Coriah Beck, who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and by Maori Davenport, who tacked on nine points, 10 rebounds and four steals coming off the bench.

UAPB utilized excellent ball movement in Friday’s game, piling up 43 assists on 44 made field goals. Green’s 16 assists led the distribution list for the Golden Lions and Kaila Walker also added 11 assists of her own.

UAPB did a great job disrupting shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Azaria Robinson led the way individually for the Golden Lions with three rejections.

How It Happened

After falling behind 5-2, UAPB went on a 20-0 run with 8:26 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Jelissa Reese, to take a 22-5 lead. The Golden Lions then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 25-7 advantage. UAPB did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 18 of its 25 points close to the basket.

UAPB built that first quarter lead to 37-9 before going on a 16-0 run starting at the 4:08 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Green, to increase its lead to 53-9, a score that would hold until halftime. UAPB dominated in the paint, scoring 18 of its 28 points close to the basket.

Following intermission, UAPB continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 66-19 before going on a 12-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Walker, to expand its lead further to 78-19 with 1:43 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Golden Lions still entered the fourth quarter with a 81-23 edge. UAPB played well near the basket, scoring 22 of its 28 points in the paint.

UAPB kept its lead intact before going on a 10-0 run to grow the lead to 96-29 with 4:19 to go in the contest. The Golden Lions kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 103-35 win. UAPB took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 14 of its 22 points in the paint.
