UAPB Track & Field: Golden Lions Finished Strong in Texas Relay & Bobcats Invitational

AUSTIN/SAN MARCOS, TX. – The men’s and women’s track and field teams of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff had a successful finish at the Bobcat Invitational and Texas Relay, which were hosted by the University of Texas and Texas St.

Caleb Snowden achieved an impressive feat as he set a new school record in the high-jump competition, clearing a height of 7 feet and 5 inches. This incredible jump has put him at the top of the NCAA standings, making him the number one athlete in the country in the high jump event.

In the running events, the Golden Lions managed to secure first place in the 4 x 100-meter relay with a time of 40.89 in section B of the invitational. The relay team consisted of (Dwight Henry, Jared Sylvester, Mohamed Soumare, and Ross Walrond). The UAPB 4x400m relay team, comprising (Sylvester,Che Rochford, Walrond, and Soumare), kept the momentum going and also placed first with a time of 3:14.24.

Henry also competed in the 110m hurdles and finished fifth with a time of 14.11.

Bobcat Invitational
Lyric Love showed her prowess in the Hammer Throw event, placing fourth in section B with a distance of 48.80m.

The Lady Lions 4×400 relay team, consisting of (Cheriece Cope, Ashley Robinson, Kris-Ann Plummer and Kaiel Kimble), set a new school record of (3:46.41) in the running events. Akili Pleas-Carnie represented well, placing 10th in the 400m hurdles with a time of (1:02.26), and 12th in the 800m with a time of (2:14.04).

In the field event, Jaylynn Hampton tied for seventh in the high jump event with a leap of (5’05”).

On the men’s side, Ross Walrond finished third in the 100m dash with a time of (10.35), followed by (Mohamed Soumare and ordan Pierre), who placed 11th and 12th, respectively, in the 400m dash with times of (47.37 and 47.40).

Inertia Mugethi represented in the men’s 10,000m run placing 12th with a time of (33:26.99).

The Golden Lions 4×100 relay team of (Jared, Christopher Coleman, Sourmare, Walrond) set a seasonal best with a time of (40.40).

UAPB 4×400 relay team of (Jared, Rochford, Coleman, and Soumare), continued to dominate the relay events, placing first with another season-best time of (3:10.68).

Both UAPB squads will look to improve on their impressive performance this weekend in the Hardin Invitational, hosted by Hardin University on Friday, April 5.
