UAPB MENS HOOPS: WILLIAMS TO PARTICIPATE IN FIRST-EVER HBCU ALL STAR GAME
NEW ORLEANS, LA — The HBCU All-Star Game founder Travis Williams named Little Rock, Arkansas native and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff guard Shawn Williams to participate in the first-ever HBCU All-Star Game in New Orleans, which will take place during Final Four weekend.
With a remarkable season on his back in his first year at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Williams was named First Team All-SWAC and SWAC Newcomer of the Year for the 2021-22 season.
In a UAPB jersey, Williams led the Golden Lions in scoring, putting up 16.6 points per game, making over 40 percent of his shots. He also gained 3.4 assists per game with a career-high of 34 points against Mississippi Valley.
Making history and being a part of it, Williams will represent the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) with seven other additions. He will team up with Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) under Team Clarence ‘Big House’ Gaines in the first-ever HBCU All-Star game.
“It feels great to be able to represent UAPB in a high-level event like the HBCU All-Star game,” said Williams about his honorable historic selection. “I’m just trying to leave my print on the school to motivate kids to give HBCUs a chance. We have a lot of talent in Arkansas, and I hope those kids decide to come home.”
