UAPB Men’s Hoops: Milton and French lead Golden Lions over Grambling 86-70

GRAMBLING, LA —Kylen Milton collected 26 points and Joe French added 23 and the UAPB men’s basketball team beat the Grambling Tigers 86-70 on the road Monday.

The Golden Lions had four players score in double figures, led by Milton, who had 26 points, nine rebounds and four assists. French tacked on 23 points and Ismael Plet helped out with 14 points and six rebounds.

The UAPB offense was very productive from deep, pouring in 14 threes on 32 attempts. French was the most prolific shooter for the Golden Lions, draining seven treys in the contest.

UAPB forced 13 Grambling turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Monday’s game. The Golden Lions turned those takeaways into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Lonnell Martin led the way individually with three steals.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 17-12 advantage, UAPB went on a 6-0 run with 10:04 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Rashad Williams, to increase its lead to 23-12. The Golden Lions then added three points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 37-23 advantage. UAPB relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down nine shots to account for 27 of its 37 points.

UAPB started tacking on points in the second half almost immediately, going on an 8-0 run to grow the lead to 45-23 with 18:01 to go in the contest. The Tigers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Golden Lions still cruised the rest of the way for the 86-70 win.
