UAPB Men’s Hoops: Golden Lions Falls To Texas Southern

PINE BLUFF, AR — Joe French collected 20 points and Kylen Milton added 20, but the UAPB men’s basketball team fell to the Texas Southern Tigers 77-70 at home Monday.

French and Milton’s stellar scoring performances led the Golden Lions in the contest. French tacked on two steals and Milton added eight rebounds and three assists. Ismael Plet also helped out with nine points and nine rebounds.

The UAPB offense was strong from downtown, knocking down 14 threes on 36 attempts. French hit six treys for the Golden Lions in the contest.

How It Happened

After falling behind 13-6, UAPB went on a 7-0 run with 13:14 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Kaine McColley, to tie the game at 13. The Golden Lions then proceeded to grab a 34-32 lead heading into halftime. UAPB relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down seven shots to account for 21 of its 34 points.

Following intermission, UAPB kept widening that lead, expanding it to 41-38 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Milton’s jumper, to grow the lead to 48-38 with 13:54 to go in the contest. Texas Southern then asserted control, outscoring the Golden Lions 39-22 the rest of the way to hand UAPB the 77-70 loss. UAPB shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting seven shots from deep to score 21 of its 36 points.
