UAPB Men Hoops’ Second Half Comeback Secures 70-67 Victory Against Texas Southern

HOUSTON, TX —The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) men’s basketball team went into halftime trailing Texas Southern 34-27, but fought back from the deficit to take down the Tigers 70-67 on the road Saturday.

The Golden Lions had three players score in double figures, led by Kylen Milton, who had 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Lonnell Martin tacked on 16 points, seven rebounds and two steals and Joe French helped out with 11 points.

UAPB collected 42 rebounds in Saturday’s game compared to Texas Southern’s 39, led by nine boards from Ismael Plet. The Golden Lions also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 12 rebounds into 15 second chance points.

The UAPB defense held Texas Southern shooters to only 39.1 percent from the field, including 9.1 percent from three-point range.

How It Happened

After playing to a 10-10 tie, UAPB went on a 6-0 run with 13:14 left in the first half to take a 16-10 lead. The Golden Lions then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 34-27.

After intermission, UAPB kept the Tigers from increasing their lead before going on an 11-0 run, finished off by Trejon Ware’s layup, to seize a 58-54 lead with 6:36 to go in the contest. The Tigers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Golden Lions still held on for the 70-67 win.
