UAPB Men Hoops Loses At Texas Southern
HOUSTON –The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s basketball team hit 7-of-15 attempts from beyond the arc, shooting 46.7 percent from deep in a 79-65 loss to the Texas Southern Tigers on the road Thursday.
The Golden Lions (3-19, 2-11 SWAC) had three players score in double figures, led by Dequan Morris, who had 15 points and six rebounds. Nicholas Jones added 13 points and two steals from the bench and Shaun Doss Jr. chipped in as well with 12 points and two steals.
UAPB forced 18 Texas Southern turnovers. The Golden Lions turned those takeaways into 14 points on the other end of the floor. Jones’ two steals led the way for UAPB.
After jumping out to a 21-20 advantage, UAPB went on an 8-0 run with 8:37 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Joshuwan Johnson, to increase its lead to 29-20. The Golden Lions then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 34-32 advantage. UAPB relied on its three-point shooting in the first half, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 34 points.
Texas Southern chipped away and regained the lead in the second half and pulled away for the win.
