UAPB Men Hoops: Golden Lions Handle Bethune-Cookman For Their Third Consecutive Win

PINE BLUFF, AR —The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s basketball team got a 28-point showing from the bench on the way to a 76-72 victory over the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats at home Monday at the H.O. Clemmons Arena for their third consecutive conference victory.

The Golden Lions had three players score in double figures, led by Rashad Williams, who had 22 points and four assists. Kylen Milton added 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists and Ismel Plet helped out with 11 points.

UAPB took advantage of excellent ball movement in Monday’s game, piling up 22 assists on 24 made field goals. Milton’s six assists led the distribution list for the Golden Lions and Joe French also added four assists of his own.

After falling behind 27-21, UAPB went on a 6-0 run with 7:33 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Williams, to tie the game at 27. Bethune-Cookman then pulled ahead, sending the Golden Lions into halftime down 37-31.

UAPB narrowed its deficit to 65-64 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Williams’ three, to seize a 72-65 lead with 2:11 to go in the contest. The Wildcats narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Golden Lions still held on for the 76-72 win. UAPB shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting seven shots from deep to score 21 of its 45 points.
