UAPB Men Hoops: Big Games From French, Williams and Milton Lead UAPB over Champion Christian 116-73

PINE BLUFF, AR —Joe French, Rashad Williams, and Kylen Milton each put up at least 20 points to help lead the UAPB men’s basketball team past the 116-73 at home Thursday at the H.O. Clemons Arena.

French led the Golden Lions with 26 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals. Williams tacked on 25 points and two steals and Milton chipped in as well with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists.

UAPB out-rebounded 53-36 in Thursday’s game, led by French’s nine boards. The Golden Lions also pulled down 13 offensive rebounds and scored 11 second chance points.

UAPB’s defense held to only 36.8 percent shooting from the field, including 14.3 percent from beyond the arc.

How It Happened

After playing to a 3-3 tie, UAPB went on an 8-0 run with 18:59 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Lonnell Martin, to take an 11-3 lead. The Golden Lions then added 14 points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 54-32 advantage. UAPB relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down nine shots to account for 27 of its 54 points.

Following intermission, UAPB kept widening that lead, expanding it to 80-53 before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Williams’ three, to grow the lead to 89-53 with 9:44 to go in the contest. The Golden Lions kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 116-73 win. UAPB capitalized on eight turnovers in the period, collecting 16 points off those turnovers.
