UAPB Baseball Racked Up 9 Runs In Win Over Eastern Illinois; Back-to-Back Home Wins
PINE BLUFF, Arkansas – It was a difficult day for Eastern Illinois pitchers, as the UAPB Golden Lions racked up nine runs en route to a 9-6 victory over the Panthers on Wednesday.
Junior Emerson Lott (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for UAPB. The right-hander went two innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing two walks and striking out two.
In the batter’s box, the Golden Lions were led by senior Carlos Rodriguez, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a triple, a walk and an RBI. Senior Gavin Terry furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBI. Sophomore Colin McLemore also chipped in for UAPB, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding two walks and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Lions were trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. UAPB put up two runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI triple off the bat of Rodriguez.
The Golden Lions then held the Panthers scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. McLemore came across to score the lone run of the inning for UAPB, which brought the Golden Lions lead to 3-1.
UAPB’s lead had evaporated once the sixth inning came around and turned into a 5-3 Eastern Illinois advantage, when the Golden Lions re-gained control at 6-5. The Golden Lions picked up three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run single off the bat of senior Jesus Riera.
UAPB held the Panthers scoreless before their offense got back in action the next inning. Junior Eli Gries-Smi crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Golden Lions, bringing the score to 7-5 in favor of UAPB.
The Golden Lions kept Eastern Illinois off the scoreboard before expanding their lead to 9-5 the following inning. UAPB picked up two runs when a single from Terry scored freshman Jason Moss and McLemore. Eastern Illinois put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Golden Lions still held on for the 9-6 win.
