UAPB SOFTBALL: Golden Lions Sweeps Southern U. in Doubleheader on Senior Day
GAME 1 | UAPB 4, Southern 2
PINE BLUFF, Arkansas —The UAPB Lady Lions got three hits out of junior Ariana Gonzalez in a 4-2 win over the Southern Jaguars Saturday.
Sophomore Heidi Price got the win for UAPB. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.
In addition to her three hits, Gonzalez had a double, a home run and two RBI to lead the Lady Lions. Freshman Isabella Milicia put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. Senior Kaitlyn Neely also contributed for UAPB, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Lions were trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Gonzalez put UAPB on the board with a two-out solo home run off sophomore M. Roldan.
The game remained tied until the very next inning, when the Lady Lions got going again on offense. UAPB picked up two runs when a single from Milicia scored freshman Allyncia King and Neely, which brought the score to 3-1 in favor of the Lady Lions.
Southern narrowed UAPB’s lead to 3-2 before the Lady Lions stretched the advantage to 4-2 in the sixth inning. The Lady Lions added a run on Gonzalez’s RBI double. The score remained 4-2 for the rest of the game, as UAPB held on for the win.

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas — UAPB limited the Southern Jaguars to three runs on Saturday, and the Lady Lions lineup did the rest, pushing just enough runners across to eke out the 4-3 victory.
Freshman Kamea Seunarine got the win out of the bullpen for UAPB. The right-hander went four shutout innings, giving up four hits, one walk and striking out one.
At the plate, the Lady Lions were paced by senior Amari Broughton, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Junior Lyric Perry compiled a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Lady Lions first put runs on the board in the first inning. UAPB managed to push across two runs in the inning.
The Lady Lions lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 3-2. Junior Ariana Gonzalez came across to score the lone run of the inning for UAPB, which brought the score level at 3-3.
That 3-3 tie turned into a 4-3 UAPB lead in the fifth. The Lady Lions picked up a run on an RBI triple from Broughton, scoring sophomore Janai Mathis from first. The score remained 4-3 for the rest of the game, as UAPB held on for the win.
