UAPB Baseball: Braelin Hence Selected to Participate in MLB Diversity Pipeline Scout Development Program
PINE BLUFF, AR. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball assistant coach Braelin Hence has been selected to participate in the second Diversity Pipeline Scout Development Program, run by Major League Baseball in partnership with the Buck O’Neil Professional Scouts and Coaches Association.
The highly selective program takes place during the Arizona Fall League October 9-16. The Diversity Pipeline program seeks to identify, develop and grow the pool of qualified candidates for on-field and baseball operations positions throughout the industry.
Hence, a former baseball student-athlete with the Golden Lions enters his second year on UAPB staff, assisting with the infield and outfield under the leadership of Coach Carlos James.
“Being selected for the MLB Diversity Pipeline Coaching Development Program is a tremendous honor and opportunity,” said Hence. “It’s a testament to the strides being made by MLB and its staff as they highlight the importance of inclusion in baseball. I’m thankful to gain experiences from the great coaches, scouts, and future stars of the game here in the Arizona Fall League”.
An infielder, Hence led the team in stolen base (9-11) in 2021 and finished in the top 30th in the SWAC Conference in batting average (.288) with five doubles. A native of Pine Bluff, AR., he earned his bachelor’s in Biology with a 3.97 GPA and master’s in Secondary Education/ Physical Education with a 4.0 GPA.
