UAPB Athletics Continues To Build Champions In The Classroom

Pine Bluff, AR.– The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff student-athletes finished the Fall 2023 semester on a high note as 172 of UAPB’s 280 (61%) student-athletes earned a semester GPA of 3.0 or greater (cum). As a whole, the department finished the semester with a (cum) 3.2 GPA. This makes the ninth straight semester that UAPB student-athletes reached the 3.000 GPA or higher milestone.

“The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff prides itself on having student-athletes who excel both athletically and academically,” said Vice Chancellor of Intercollegiate Athletics Chris Robinson. “Academic success has always been a priority for our student-athletes, and I am proud of their success this fall. Our student-athlete support services staff is tremendous, and they put in countless hours to ensure that our student-athletes had the resources and necessary support throughout the semester.”

The Golden Lions took advantage of their newly renovated academic center with a grant from the (NCAA), as the semester continues to build upon a solid educational base for the department as UAPB wrapped up one of the best Graduation Success Rates (GSR) of all HBCUs at (84%).

In addition to the streak of consecutive semesters, fall 2023 was a banner year academically after 44 student-athletes finished the term with a GPA of 4.00. Also, 13 of 14 sports finished with a 3.000 GPA (cum) for the academic fall semester.

UAPB saw 102 student-athletes make the Dean’s list, which rewards undergraduate students with a semester GPA of 3.4 (term) or higher and 12 fall graduates.

“What we accomplished academically in the classroom this past semester and in previous years is a true testament to the quality of young people our coaching staff brings to be a part of their respective athletic programs,” said Associate Director for Academics Kyle Hartsfield. “It also shows our commitment as an Athletics Department and university to all our Golden Lion family to succeed in the classroom.”

From a team cumulative GPA perspective, golf (3.54 GPA) led the semester, followed by soccer (3.52), softball (3.50), women’s cross country (3.44), men’s cross country (3.41), women’s outdoor track & field (3.40), volleyball (3.3), women’s indoor track & field (3.40), men’s track & field outdoor (3.30), men’s track & field indoor (3.30), baseball (3.20), women’s basketball (3.10), and football (3.00).
