The deaths of three prison inmates have been linked to the deadly synthetic drug K-2.

29-year-old Randall Myers was found dead in March. He was found on the floor of his cell around 3:30 in the morning at the Varner Super Max unit. It has been over a year since 36 year-old Antonio Rauls died inside the Ouachita River Unit in Malvern. His death too was determined to be an accident and K2 related. 48-year-old Harrison Flanery also died last year on October 28th at Tucker prison. Flanery’s cell mate told investigators that, “He’s told me stories saying that he has died twice from smoking deuce.” When asked how K2 is getting into the prisons the inmate added, “I have no idea how it is getting in.”

Some inmates did suggest, without offering proof or names, that guards, truck drivers, regional maintenance crews and water treatment workers are bringing in drugs.

It is the job of the state medical examiner to determine what caused these deaths. It is the job of the Arkansas State Police to investigate the circumstances surrounding each death, including how the drug got into the prison and into each inmate’s system.
