Colbie Caillat recently released her first solo music since 2016 — the song “Worth It” — and has an album coming. Why the long wait? After going through two breakups, Colbie says she wanted nothing to do with music.

In 2018, Colbie co-founded a country group called Gone West with her fiancé Justin Young and another couple. But in 2020, both the band and she and Justin broke up.

“Honestly, after the band broke up, I needed a break from everything, from everyone, from the music, so yeah, I really was like, ‘I don’t want anything to do with music’ for a long time,” Colbie tells ABC Audio. “It was also when the world had shut down and I was just getting to be at peace, which I hadn’t been for quite a while.”

“And so I took that time to be still and to experience life, and to relearn who I was and what I wanted,” she adds. “I think it was maybe, like, seven months in that I wrote my first song.”

The first song was “Worth It,” and Colbie says it was “just the exact thing I wanted to express for my love and the relationship that Justin and I had and our time together.”

“Writing is therapy,” she says. “So it was good for me to allow myself that time to reset.”

Colbie’s fans are certainly happy she’s back. She says of the song, “It’s been so well received, and everyone’s been so kind and loving.”

Colbie recently made her solo debut at Nashville’s famed Grand Ole Opry, and she’ll be performing at the 2023 National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C., on Monday, May 29.  It’ll air in syndication on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW stations nationwide.
